What is the difference between mental health and a mental illness?
Mental health refers to how we feel about ourselves, how we feel about others and how we are able to keep up with what life throws at us. It can determine, how we cope with different situations, and how we can live day-to-day putting up with our imperfections, or dwelling on them. Our personal mental health, impacts not only our lives, but our family and friends, we can build each other up with a happy and healthy attitude or tear each other down by being negative and grumpy. We can change how our mental health is, by being physically healthy and healthily socializing on a regular basis. =
A Mental illness however, is when a person has a mental disadvantage that sets back their daily life, because of mental put downs or bad eating habits. It is something that they can't help, and have to work very hard - using therapy or medication - to conquer their negative thoughts on a daily basis. It - like mental health - impacts yourself and everyone around you in varying degrees, but with supporting friends and family, it doesn't have to impact anybody if the sufferer does what they can to keep it under control.
